ADNSW staff were busy with community outreach during August, connecting with community and raising awareness about the free, confidential services ADNSW provides.
Assistant Community Engagement Officer, Claire Williams, facilitated a Disability Rights Webinar for Legal Aid NSW, an online workshop with Dress for Success participants, and a workshop with Twenty10 staff. Claire also attended the Resilient Democracy for Resilient Communities conference.
Community Engagement Officers, Shabnam Tavakol and Morlai Kamara partnered with the Arab Council Australia to run focus groups exploring race and disability discrimination experienced by Arabic speaking community members.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outreach team member, Narelle Hennessy, attended the Good Service Mob community information session in Cranebrook where she spoke about discrimination and the law, and answered questions from community members.
During the Twenty10 workshop, participants asked whether complainants could use their preferred name when making a complaint to ADNSW. The short answer is yes! Complainants should use the name and pronouns they want ADNSW staff to use when contacting them.
