ADNSW participates in Vision Australia’s webinar on disability discrimination

ADNSW was invited on 9 February to participate as one of three panellists in a Vision Australia webinar on ‘Standing up for your rights – making your discrimination complaint matter’.

The webinar which also featured the Australian Human Rights Commission and Vision Australia panellists, attracted participants from across Australia.

Panellists discussed the scope of legislations covered by the Australian Human Rights Commission and ADNSW, and advantages and limitations of the complaint process of both organisations.

A large emphasis was placed on people with disability seeking help from enquiry services of anti-discrimination bodies in either state or federal government departments if they believe they have been treated unfairly because of their disability in areas of public life covered by the relevant legislation.

Community Engagement Officer and ADNSW panellist Morlai Kamara, told participants that ‘before making a complaint, it is important to contact ADNSW’s enquiry service. An enquiry officer may be able to help you to lodge a complaint or recommend an advocacy service to assist you.’
