Pedestrian crossing altered making it more difficult to navigate

May 2021

Zhang* is blind. His local pedestrian crossing was altered by the Council, making it more difficult for him to navigate. Zhang approached the Council and requested some modifications. When the Council did not respond, Zhang complained to ADNSW that he was being discriminated against because of his disability.

ADNSW helped the parties to resolve the matter. Without admitting any liability, the Council undertook works to fix the handrail at the crossing and add extra tactile ground markers at the start of the crossing. These modifications have made the crossing safer to use for blind pedestrians like Zhang.
