Inadequate care provided to child with cerebral palsy

Janelle’s* daughter Lilly* has cerebral palsy and attends an early learning centre. Janelle said the centre failed to provide or cater to Lilly’s need for privacy in some instances and had failed to ensure she drank enough water throughout the day. Janelle also said that the centre had failed to provide her with requested copies of relevant policies and care plans, and had taken many months to obtain toilet support for Lilly. Janelle also said that after she made a complaint about the treatment to an external agency, the centre director ignored her and refused to acknowledge her presence.

Janelle lodged a disability discrimination and victimisation complaint with ADNSW.

After the centre received notification about the complaint from ADNSW, Janelle advised that the centre took appropriate steps to resolve all the issues she had raised, and she considered her complaint resolved.
