Ellie* is a regular member of her local registered club. She has several physical disabilities and uses her scooter to access areas of the club.
The club went through renovations and later informed Ellie that she could no longer use her scooter to access parts of the club she frequently used including the bistro and pub.
Ellie said she was unable to park her scooter and walk into these areas due to her disabilities. She lodged a complaint of disability discrimination with ADNSW.
During the conciliation conference, the CEO apologised to Ellie for her distress as she hadn’t been able to enjoy the benefits of her membership.
The club agreed to implement reasonable adjustments for Ellie to safely access the bistro using her scooter and have staff provide her with a direct drink service during the week. Ellie was satisfied with the adjustments which resolved the complaint.
