Dave* has a psychiatric disability and is always accompanied by his registered assistance dog, Toby.
Dave was refused entry to a café because they did not allow dogs inside. Dave tried to explain that Toby was a registered assistance dog, but he was still refused entry and was told he could sit outside.
Dave lodged a complaint of disability discrimination with ADNSW.
The complaint was resolved when the owner of the café provided an unreserved apology to Dave and acknowledged that the worker acted wrongly because they didn’t know that assistance animals were allowed inside the café.
