Passenger not picked up by ride share driver

Gerry* lives with several disabilities, some of which impact how he moves. He felt he was treated unfairly by a ride share driver who drove past him after seeing him.

Gerry felt that the ride share driver might have thought he was drunk because of how his neurological disabilities affect his movement. Gerry complained to the rideshare company but was not happy with their response.

Gerry then made a disability discrimination complaint to Anti-Discrimination NSW (ADNSW). ADNSW investigated the matter by getting information from each party.

The matter was resolved at a conciliation conference, when the ride share company explained that the driver had been given a warning, and they would include disability awareness in their driver training. The company also gave Gerry a small payment to cover the cost of a ruined psychiatric appointment.
