ADNSW Annual Report is now available

Published 21 December 2023

Our 2022-23 Annual Report is now on our website, giving a snapshot of the work we do to eliminate discrimination and promote equality and equal treatment for everyone in NSW.

In 2022-23, we:

  • answered 2,560 enquiries from the NSW community
  • received 1,833 complaints, the highest number in decades
  • received 77 exemption applications
  • provided advice, comments and submissions to contribute to public policy on a range of discrimination issues
  • added resources to our website in 22 community languages
  • had almost 360,000 page views on our website.

The year’s highlights included:

  • our participation in the Sydney WorldPride Festival
  • the launch of our videos and podcasts about workplace adjustments for people with disability in the public service
  • our referendum resilience pocket guide and animation, ‘6 ways to look after yourself and mob during The Voice referendum debate’
  • our Refugee Week event, including the launch of a brochure about our services in 22 community languages.

We saw the number of complaints by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people more than double from the previous year, suggesting that our work to raise awareness about discrimination, its impacts and the services we offer is resonating with these communities.

President of ADNSW Helen McKenzie reflected on another busy year for the organisation.

“This year we focused our energies and limited resources on priority areas such as effectively managing the enquiries and complaints we receive, educating and engaging with the community and advocating for positive change.

“I am proud that we were also able to continue to connect and work with a wide range of individuals, communities and agencies, to better understand experiences of discrimination, which is vital in helping ADNSW to provide support and services where they are most needed,” Ms McKenzie said.
