Man’s mental health medication causes missed property inspection

August 2021

Garrett* has a mental health condition. His condition affects his ability to sleep and he takes medication for it.

Garrett’s landlord sent him a letter for a property inspection. Garret missed the property inspection because his medication made it difficult for him wake up in time. His landlord sent him another letter threatening eviction.

Garrett complained of disability discrimination to ADNSW.

The landlord admitted the letter threatening eviction was inappropriate and not standard practice. He agreed to be more sensitive to Garrett’s disability in the future.

A property inspection was held at the convenience of both parties and the complaint was resolved.
