Made redundant because of age

June 2021

Jackie* is 54 and was made redundant after a restructure.

She felt her employer had terminated her employment based on her age. Jackie made a complaint of age discrimination to ADNSW.

At conciliation, Jackie said a member of the management team publicly stated that the business wanted employees who were young, vibrant and recent graduates.

The employer responded stating the position was made redundant as a result of a genuine restructure.

Jackie was provided with financial compensation and the matter was resolved.
