Offered fewer shifts once turned 18

Shane* worked as a casual shelf packer at a local store.

When Shane turned 18, he was entitled to the adult pay rate. Shane was offered a reduced number of shifts until he was given no shifts for several months.  Shane complained about this to his manager, and he was informed of a drop-off in demand. However, Shane observed other younger casual employees being offered shifts.

Shane lodged a complaint with ADNSW.

At conciliation, Shane stated that when he called his manager to ask about his shifts, he was told that he could not have any shifts because he had made a complaint.

The store management representatives denied this, however they offered to move the local manager to another store.

They also agreed to pay Shane $3,500 and shifts to work at his local store.
