Niu* is a Polynesian-Australian woman. While she was eating a meal at a registered club, another customer accused her of staring at him. When Niu said she wasn’t looking at him, the man did not believe her and began racially abusing her.
Niu lodged a complaint with ADNSW.
A conciliation conference was held with the club, Niu, and the man who had racially abused her. During the meeting, the man admitted that he’d called Nui racist names. The club told the man that racist comments would not be tolerated in the club and that if the behaviour happened again, he would be suspended. The complaint was resolved when the man apologised to Nui.
