Told not to breastfeed baby

June 2016

Marg* was told not to breastfeed her baby while visiting a government-run institution.

Marg lodged a complaint with ADNSW.

When ADNSW contacted the institution, they said that this was not their policy. They told the staff member who spoke to Marg that the information was incorrect. The institution said they would provide further training to all staff to remind them that women can breastfeed in public and that this right is protected by law.

The complaint was settled as Marg was satisfied with this response.
