How to make a complaint

Information alert

Anti-Discrimination NSW promotes respectful communication and has zero tolerance of verbal or written abuse. Read our Guarantee of service to learn more.

Make your complaint in writing

If you believe that you have experienced discrimination, sexual harassment, vilification or victimisation, you can make a complaint to us. You must put your complaint in writing.

When you lodge a complaint with Anti-Discrimination NSW, you are starting a legal process.

Anti-Discrimination NSW is impartial. We do not advocate for either party. It is your responsibility to provide clear and detailed information about the alleged discrimination.

Our procedures are guided by legislation, and while we can consider reasonable adjustments to support accessibility, we cannot alter the legal process to suit individual preferences.

Complaint form options

You can fill in our complaint form or write a letter to the President of Anti-Discrimination NSW.

Our complaint form is available:

If you wish to write a letter, please follow these tips.

You can write your complaint in your language, and we will have it translated into English for free. If writing your complaint is not possible, you can contact us to discuss other ways to submit your complaint.

Important information

To help us manage your complaint efficiently:

  • Please avoid sending a large volume of documents, as this may delay the process
  • Do not send audio or video files, or photographs. These cannot be stored and will be returned to you.

Once your complaint is assigned to a Conciliation Officer, you will have the opportunity to discuss what supporting material is appropriate to submit.

We will use your document to decide how to deal with the complaint.

Please note that a copy of your complaint and any information you send to us will be shared with the person or organisation you are complaining about (however, you can request that your contact details are kept confidential).

If your complaint is referred to the NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Anti-Discrimination NSW is required to provide full contact details of all parties.

Send your complaint to us

You can send your complaint to us using our online form, or by email or post (if you have no access to email).
