Children under 12 unable to enter restaurant

December 2019

Graham wanted to book a restaurant for his 50th birthday with family. When the restaurant was contacted to make the reservation, they informed Graham of their policy to refuse the entry of children under 12.

The restaurant owners claimed the restaurant was unsafe for children and instead of deciding on each case, established an age cut-off point.

Graham felt this policy was unfair as his 11-year-old son would have been excluded from the birthday meal. He lodged a complaint of age discrimination with ADNSW.

When contacted by ADNSW, the restaurant agreed to change their policy to remove the age restriction. They also apologised to Graham which resolved the complaint.
