Thongs not acceptable for men

Greg* is a hotel patron who was refused entry into a hotel for an evening event.

Greg claimed this was because he was wearing thongs, although he could see women wearing thongs on the premises. Greg said that when he questioned this, he was told that the women had come in before the evening dress code came into effect. However, Greg later observed another woman wearing thongs being allowed in.

Greg lodged a complaint with ADNSW.

At conciliation, the hotel representatives acknowledged inappropriate application of their dress code. The hotel representatives also agreed to rewrite the dress code ensuring gender neutrality and display a notice detailing the required standard of dress to patrons seeking entry.

Greg accepted this response and the complaint was resolved.
