Work hours reduced after getting married

September 2018

Sakura* works on a casual basis in a club.

After recently getting married, she noticed her hours of work had dropped significantly while her colleagues’ work hours remained unchanged.

Sakura approached her manager to inquire about her reduced work hours. Her manager told her that her hours were cut because unlike the other staff she 'had a husband to support her'.

Sakura lodged a complaint with ADNSW.

At conciliation, the matter was settled when the employer wrote Sakura a letter of apology and agreed to increase her hours of work to the previous level.
