Not allowed to work together

October 2017

Raj* and his wife Anthea* had met on the job and worked in the same department.

The employer had a policy that close relatives should not work together because a ‘conflict of interest’ might occur, and transferred Raj to another section he did not want to work in.

Raj lodged a complaint of marital discrimination with ADNSW.

At conciliation, the employer apologised and agreed to change their policy ensuring that discrimination based on marital status would no longer occur.

Raj was happy with this outcome and the matter was resolved.
