Ineligible for travel voucher because separated

August 2015

Saxa* is separated from her husband.

She was attending a vacation club presentation, where a travel voucher was being offered to attendees.

Upon arrival, Saxa was told by the company that she was ineligible to receive the voucher as she was separated rather than single or married.

The company said they wanted to market their product to people whose financial status was clear.

Saxa lodged a complaint of martial / domestic status discrimination with ADNSW.

ADNSW contacted the company and they agreed that they had not followed their own procedures correctly or adequately assessed Saxa’s financial status.

The complaint was resolved when the company agreed to change their procedures and to give Saxa the travel voucher.
