Heather* works in an administrative role in a healthcare facility.
Heather was on maternity leave and was due to return to work. She applied for a 12-month maternity leave extension as she did not want to put her child in day care due to fears relating to COVID-19.
Heather’s application was rejected by her employer. She felt she had been discriminated for being a carer and lodged a complaint with ADNSW.
When contacted by ADNSW, the employer realised that Heather was not a front-line worker as initially thought and the 12-month leave extension was granted.
