Anti-Discrimination NSW (ADNSW) officially launched its Thought Leadership Series on 17 September 2025, marking a significant step in fostering dialogue between the legal sector, public sector, civil society and the broader community on key issues related to the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
The inaugural event featured a compelling conversation between Chris D’Aeth, Acting President of the Anti-Discrimination Board of NSW, and the Hon. Tom Bathurst AC KC, Chairperson of the NSW Law Reform Commission. Close to 200 people were in attendance both in person and online.
Mr Bathurst, a former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of NSW with more than four decades of legal expertise, shared valuable insights into the process of law reform and discussed what will be considered as part of the review of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW), which is now in the consultation phase.
Mr Bathurst emphasised the importance of centring the community’s experience both in the law reform process and in the legislation and shared how intentional and wide-ranging measures have been taken by the NSW Law Reform Commission to include diverse perspectives and experiences. Mr Bathurst acknowledged that legislation such as the Anti-Discrimination Act needs to ensure adequate and comprehensible protections to build community confidence.
The launch set a high benchmark for future sessions in ADNSW’s Thought Leadership Series.
Join us for the next session in February 2026, as we continue the conversation on anti-discrimination law and policy in NSW. Event details will be published in Equal Time, ADNSW’s monthly newsletter – please subscribe to stay informed.
