Questioned about sexual preference

November 2015

Danna* and Kylie* were transferred into new roles at a predominantly male workplace.

Before their arrival, their male co-workers circulated rumours that “two dykes were coming.”

On arrival, the women were questioned about their sexual preference by the branch manager and were subjected to ongoing harassment by some employees.

Danna and Kylie lodged a complaint of homosexual discrimination with ADNSW.

At conciliation, the compliant was resolved when the employer agreed to pay Danna and Kylie compensation.

ADNSW also conducted workplace training on discrimination which all staff in the branch were required to attend.
