Understanding the barriers to employment for people with disability

Published 24 September 2020

We are researching the barriers to gaining and keeping employment for people with disability so we can co-design strategies to address these barriers.

Prior to the release of the surveys earlier this month, our Community Engagement team consulted with over 26 disability sector organisations including peak bodies, community legal centres, local councils and employment services across NSW to discuss the important issue of disability discrimination in employment.

One of the recurring themes that emerged from our discussions with disability sector organisations was the importance of placing people with disability and their carers at the centre of the initiative through consultation and partnership. In addition to the surveys, we are also partnering with some disability organisations to conduct focus groups and individual interviews.

The outcome of this consultation process will help us identify project activities and partners in the disability sector to contribute to improving rights and equity for people with disability in employment.

Help us make workplaces in NSW more accessible and inclusive by sharing your personal experiences or what you know in the online surveys below. It takes about 5 minutes!
