The New South Wales anti-discrimination authority, Anti-Discrimination NSW, is proud to sponsor the 2025 Australian Human Rights Awards – Law Award in memory of Immediate Past President Helen McKenzie.

Helen McKenzie was a respected employment lawyer, business leader and President of Anti-Discrimination NSW from February 2022 until March 2025. She sadly passed away in April 2025.

Acting Director of Anti-Discrimination NSW Mia Zahra said Helen brought not only a wealth of experience to her role as President, but also an inspiring vision and commitment that has left a lasting impact on the organisation and its people.

“Helen's expertise, inspiring vision and commitment were instrumental to the work of Anti-Discrimination NSW,” Ms Zahra said.

“In addition to being our President, Helen was a former partner, consultant and cherished member of the Ashurst law firm – and a trailblazer for women in the legal profession.

“This year’s Law Award honours Helen’s memory by recognising legal professionals who, like her, have made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of human rights in Australia,” Ms Zahra added.

The Australian Human Rights Awards are presented by the Australian Human Rights Commission and honour everyday Australians and groups from all over the country who have made a real difference in supporting and advancing human rights.

Nominations for the 2025 Law Award are open until 18 August 2025 and the awards ceremony will be held in Sydney on 12 December 2025.
