Refused treatment at private hospital

October 2014

Jeremy* was refused surgery at a private hospital when they found out that he was HIV positive.

The hospital claimed that their facilities were not equipped to treat a patient with HIV.

Jeremy lodged a complaint with ADNSW.

At conciliation, the hospital agreed to change their policies, paid Jeremy compensation and gave him a written apology which he accepted, resolving the matter.
